The book of Hebrews is a treatise on Jesus as the fulfillment of the Old Testament laws and ceremonies. It leaves no room for doubt about the legitimacy of Jesus as mediator, or the sufficiency and efficacy of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. This is the book to read if one is struggling with guilt, doubt, or weak faith. It leads the believer to fellowship and friendship with God through our merciful high priest, Jesus Christ.
Hebrews begins by explaining Jesus’ divinity. Jesus is the Son of God, the express image of his person: “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9). Jesus is not a mere creature or angel, but the only begotten Son of God (Heb. 1:5).
