The scripture says if we resist
The devil and his pow’rs
That he will surely flee from us;
The vict’ry then is ours.
But how do we accomplish this?
The task takes much persistence,
For Satan doesn’t just “let go”;
We’ll meet with great resistance.

To steadfastly obey our Lord
Requires a prayerful life,
For human nature does not want
To face this awful strife.
We much prefer the easy way
To drift along in sin
Enjoying pleasures of the flesh;
Foregoing discipline.

But as God’s children we will pray;
The Spirit works within
And strengthens our oft weak desires
That we the conquest win.
We thank the Lord for giving us
The faith to trust and pray;
May we seek first our Father’s will
And walk in wisdom’s way.
